Movie Monday’s
Tuesday 8th June 2010 (yes, we had a movie monday on a tuesday… get over it. haha)
In attendance: Giorgina, Georgia, Frankie, Kara, Hannah & Natalie.
This week was Giorgie’s week - She cooked us a lovely Thai Green curry to kick the night off. Perfect. The chosen film was The Wedding Date, a nice Rom-Com. I think we all enjoyed the film- the main characters were well cast, the idea is a good one - it does have potential to be a GREAT film… however the script was lacking and it all seemed to be missing something out… Still enjoyable, but not heart grabbing.
“The Wedding Date centers around Kat Ellis (Messing), who returns to her parents’ London home for her sister’s wedding. Afraid of confronting her ex-fiancé, who dumped her two years before, she hires a top-drawer male escort (Mulroney) to pose as her new boyfriend”

In attendance tonight: Giorgina, Georgia, Frankie, Kara, Hannah, Natalie and Lawrence (yes, a boy! Honorary member for the week!).
Tonight’s film was The Notebook. Kara had never seen it, so we all decided that we had to educate her in the beauty of it all. She loved it!! (How could she not!) For those of you that haven’t seen it here is a brief summary from imdb (I’ve only added half of what is written as I think it gives it away a bit…never useful!):
“An old man in a nursing home reads a story to an old woman each day. The story he reads follows two young lovers named Allie Hamilton and Noah Calhoun. They met one evening at a carnival many years ago. Allie’s parents separate Noah and Allie. They disapprove of Noah’s lack of wealth, and move Allie away. After waiting for Noah to write her for several years, Allie meets and becomes engaged to a handsome young soldier named Lon. In a local newspaper, Noah’s picture catches Allie’s eye.”
It is truly a beautiful love story. Both Ryan Gosling and Rachel Mcadams are captivating throughout, and you completely buy the love that they feel for each other. We all would highly recommend it! Go watch it, you won’t regret it!!

Today saw the reopening of the cinema club. In attendance were Natalie, Kara, Hannah, Georgia, Giorgie and me. The film was 1938’s Bring Up Baby starring Katherine Hepburn and Cary Grant, directed by Howard Hawks. We thought it would be a good idea to start with a classic. The dialogue is quick and witty, and you really have to pay attention in parts. The storyline is extremely silly - it’s not a film to be taken too seriously… Here is a brief summary from imdb.com.
“When Susan Vance (Katharine Hepburn), a scatterbrained young woman, takes a shine to Dr. David Huxley (Cary Grant), a sober palaeontologist, mayhem ensues. Dr. Huxley, engaged to be married and intensely interested in the arrival of the brontosaurus bone required to complete his project at the museum, is inextricably bound up with Susan’s escapades when she finds herself responsible for Baby, a tame leopard shipped to her New York apartment and intended for Susan’s aunt in Connecticut. The plot thickens when George the Terrier steals the priceless bone and buries it, Baby escapes, and an untamed leopard escapes from a circus convoy (resulting in a twist on the mistaken identity ploy). Will Susan’s love for David be reciprocated? Will David get his bone back? Will Baby be brought up - or brought down”
